Rinse Glass
Rinse the polished flat glass with heated distilled water.
Since the minerals in tap water will affect the mirror effect during the silver plating process, tap water cannot be used directly in the entire cleaning process.
Silver Plating Preparation
Since silver itself cannot directly adhere to the glass surface, the factory-made mirrors will first spray a small amount of stannous chloride solution on the flat glass to form a stannous ion-sensitized layer on the surface.
Silver plating process
The silver used here is actually a silver nitrate solution, which is mixed with the reducing solution and sprayed on the flat glass attached with the stannous chloride solution.
After a few seconds, the reduced silver precipitates on the surface of the glass plate, and gradually deposits and hardens to form a silver film reflective layer.
At this time, a silver-plated mirror can reflect light, but the production process is not over yet!
Seal silver layer
A curtain coating machine is used to spray protective paint on the silver-plated mirror.
The mirror passes through the curtain coating machine. After being evenly coated with the first layer of protective paint, it is immediately sent to an oven at 99°C for drying. It only takes 105 seconds to paint. It solidifies and adheres to the mirror.
The second coat was also done using a curtain coater, but with a different coat.
After that, it is sent to an oven at 118°C for drying. After 210 seconds, the paint will also cure and adhere to the mirror.
Check the mirror
After the protective coating is applied, the mirrors undergo another acid wash to remove excess metal residue.
Then the workers will stand up the mirror and carefully check whether there are any defects in the mirror.
If there are bubbles, they will be marked first, and then they will be cut off when they are made into small pieces of glass.
